FAQs

Question: When will the new XBList that works be ready?
Answer: When it's done. I have a lot of other pressures on my time, and fixing XBList is frustrating work due to the complexities of scraping the moving target that is Xbox.com. Be patient, and follow XBList on Facebook or subscribe to the XBList new RSS feed and you'll be notified when it's ready.
Question:How does XBlist work?
Answer: XBList downloads the Friends List page from Xbox.com and reformats it to look nicer, and adds in the Halo emblems and Gamer Tiles and categories, etc. Thus, if Xbox.com goes down or has problems, XBList stops working. I don't know any better way to get the Friends List.
Question: Does XBList steal my personal info?
Answer: No. XBList is for you to view your own gamertag. It does not communicate your Xbox Live Friends List, your Gamer Tag, your Windows Live ID credentials, or any other information to myself or any third party. It talks to only 3 sites automatically: Xbox.com (for the friends list), Bungie.net (for the emblems) and my site (to check for updates only). It doesn't even do Passport login for you - it lets Internet Explorer do it, so you know I'm not faking the Passport site. However, I urge you to not take my word for it. Download Fiddler and use it to monitor XBList's communications. You'll see that it does not stealthily upload anything to my servers or anything like that.
Question: Will you open source XBList?
Answer: No. It's not a complicated project if you want to build your own, though.
Question: Will you make it into a Windows Sidebar gadget?
Answer: No - It's pretty complicated to make a sidebar gadget out of XBList, and I don't really see the need for it.
Question: Will you make it into a Pidgin/Trillian/etc plugin?
Answer: I have no plans to make XBList into a plugin for any other program. It's standalone.
